BOOK BINGO ENTRY

Book Bingo is an activity designed to promote reading and make it more engaging for participants. It typically involves participants filling out a bingo card with various book-related challenges. Below are the key elements for organizing and implementing Book Bingo:

1. Objectives: Promote Reading, Introduce Variety in Reading Choices, Foster Friendly Competition

2. Target Audience: Class 6 to 12

Book Reading Bingo (Classes 6 to 12)

              PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya Idukki is celebrating National Library Week from 14th November 2024 to 21st November 2024. A wide variety of fun filled and knowledge based activities are arranged for the Teachers, Students and the Parents.

1. Book Reading Bingo


Timed Challenge: Complete the bingo from November 14th , 2024 till 31st March , 2025

The objective is to complete a line, either:

  • Horizontally
  • Vertically
  • Diagonally
Recording Progress:
  •     Keep a book review of the books you read for each prompt and sign it from the Librarian
  • You can make your own Bingo Card also.

Bookmark Making Competition

1. Theme and Design:

  • The bookmark should be original and feature a design that reflects a theme. 
  • Participants can use any design they like, such as drawings or paintings, but it should be appropriate for all ages.
  • Theme for Balvatika, Class 1 and 2 : Anything related to books or stories
    • For Class 3 to 5 : Any Fairytales
    • For Class 6 to 12: A book which inspired you most / Libraries are doors to a 1000 different places

2. Materials and Size:

  • Materials: Participants can use any material for the bookmark, such as paper, cardboard, or recycled materials. You can also decorate it with markers, colored pencils, stickers, etc.
  • Size: The bookmark should be approximately 2 inches wide and 6 inches long (standard bookmark size).

3. Originality:

  • The design must be created by the participant

4. Physical Submission: 

  • Ensure the bookmark is neatly made and not damaged (e.g., no wrinkles, folds, or tears).

5. Name and Class:

  • Participants should include their name and class on the back of the bookmark.

Storytelling Audio – Record a short story (original or adapted)

 1. Story Content:

  • The story must be original or adapted (you can tell a story in your own words or adapt a classic tale).
  • It should be suitable for all ages (family-friendly).
  • The Story can be in English, Malayalam or Hindi.

2. Duration:

  • The audio recording should be between 1 to 5 minutes long.

3. Audio Quality:

  • Ensure that the audio is clear and easy to hear. Avoid background noise and speak clearly into the microphone.
  • You can use a phone or any recording device, but make sure the sound is not muffled or distorted.

4. Submission:

  • Submit the audio in a common file format like MP3 or WAV. Don't record using Whatsapp Voice message.
  • Include your name and class at the end of the Audio and also mention in the subject of the email send. Mail to : kvidk.library.competition@gmail.com
  • Competitions are for 
    • Category 1 :Balvatika, Class 1 and 2
    • Category 2 :Class 6 to 8
    • Category 3: Class 9 to 12

5. Creativity and Expression:

  • Use voices, sound effects, and expressions to bring your story to life! Make it engaging and fun.
  • Selected Stories will be uploaded in the Library Channels. 

Draw a picture of your favourite character (Primary Classes)

 1. General Rules:

  • Eligibility: The competition is open to students from Class 1 to Class 5.
  • Theme: Participants must draw their favorite character from a book.
  • Medium: Participants can use any medium (crayons, colored pencils, markers, watercolors, etc.), but digital artwork is not accepted unless specifically stated.
  • Size of Drawing: The drawing should be on a standard A4-sized paper (or another size as per the competition guidelines).
  • Submission Format: Submit the entries for the contest to the Class Teachers latest by 27th November 2024

2. Specific Guidelines for Participants:

  • Draw Your Favorite Character: Choose any character from your favorite book.
  • Neatness: The picture should be clear and easy to see. Avoid smudges or messy coloring.
  • Use Colors Creatively: Be as creative as you want with colors.

3. Format of the Drawing Submission:

  • Paper Size: Ensure the drawing is done on A4-sized paper (or as specified in the competition guidelines).
  • Submission Method:
    • Physical Submission: If submitting by hand, ensure that the drawing is neatly done and not folded or damaged.
  • Name and Class: Clearly write the student's name, class, and school on the back of the drawing.

Write about your favourite Author (Class 6 to 12)

1. General Rules:

  • Eligibility: Class 6 to 12 Students
  • Theme: The essay should be about the participant’s favorite author, highlighting their works, writing style, influence, and personal connection to the author’s work.
  • Word Count: Should be between 500-1000 words.
  • Originality: The work should be the participant’s own writing, and plagiarism is strictly prohibited.
  • Language: English, Hindi, or Malayalam. 
  • Deadline: November 30, 2024
  • Submission Format: Write in A4 size paper and send the scanned copy to the mail and physical copy to the Librarian
  • Judging Criteria: Entries will be judged on originality, creativity, writing quality, structure, and adherence to the theme.

2. Suggested Essay Format:

Title:

  • Your title should be relevant to your chosen author, e.g., "The Magic of J.K. Rowling's World" or "Why I Love Ernest Hemingway."

Introduction (Approx. 100-150 words):

  • Introduce your favorite author.
  • Provide some background information (e.g., name, nationality, literary genre, notable works).
  • State why you chose this author as your favorite.

Body (Approx. 300-600 words):

  • Author's Biography: Briefly summarize important details about the author’s life, career, and major achievements.
  • Notable Works: Highlight some of the most famous or influential books written by the author. You can explain how these works impacted literature, culture, or your own personal life.
  • Writing Style: Describe the author's writing style (e.g., narrative voice, themes, tone, etc.). Give examples of their unique traits.
  • Personal Connection: Discuss how this author has influenced you personally. Did their books change your perspective on certain issues, or did their writing inspire you to write?

Conclusion (Approx. 100-150 words):

  • Close with a final thought or reflection on what you learned from reading their works.

Optional:

  • References: If you cite any specific works, articles, or interviews about the author, include a list of references or citations at the end (usually if required).

Write Book Review (Class 6 to 12)

Book Review Format:

  1. Title and Author

    • Book Title: Include the full title of the book in italics or quotation marks.
    • Author’s Name: Mention the author(s) of the book.
  2. Introduction (2–3 sentences)

    • Briefly introduce the book by including the genre (fiction, non-fiction, mystery, fantasy, etc.), publication year, and a quick overview of what the book is about without giving away too much detail.
    • You may mention why you chose this book or how you heard about it.
  3. Plot Summary (4–5 sentences)

    • Provide a short summary of the main events or storyline of the book.
    • Do NOT give spoilers—avoid revealing major twists, endings, or critical plot points.
    • Focus on the general flow of the story, main characters, and setting.
  4. Characters (3–4 sentences)

    • Discuss the main characters and their development throughout the book.
    • Briefly describe their personality traits, relationships with others, and how they drive the story forward.
    • You may comment on your favorite or least favorite character and why.
  5. Themes (3–4 sentences)

    • Identify the main themes or lessons of the book (e.g., friendship, courage, honesty, etc.).
    • Reflect on how the book addresses these themes and how it makes the reader think.
  6. Writing Style and Language (2–3 sentences)

    • Comment on the author’s writing style—was it easy to understand or complex? Did it keep you interested?
    • Discuss the tone of the book (serious, humorous, suspenseful, etc.) and the language used (simple, descriptive, poetic, etc.).
  7. Personal Opinion (3–4 sentences)

    • Share your own thoughts about the book. What did you like or dislike?
    • Was the book engaging? Did it keep you hooked from start to finish?
    • Discuss any parts of the book that stood out to you, such as a memorable scene or lesson learned.
  8. Rating

    • Give the book a rating (out of 5 stars or 10 points). You can also use a scale like "Excellent," "Good," "Okay," or "Not Recommended."
  9. Recommendation (1–2 sentences)

    • Suggest who would enjoy reading this book. (e.g., “I recommend this book to fans of mystery,” “This book is great for those who enjoy historical fiction”).
    • Mention the suitable age group or grade level if needed

Rules for Writing a Book Review for Class 6 to 12:

  1. Be Clear and Concise:

    • Write in clear and simple language, but avoid being too vague. Your review should be informative and easy to follow.
  2. Avoid Spoilers:

    • Don’t give away key details, such as the plot twist or ending. Focus on general impressions instead.
  3. Be Honest:

    • Share your genuine opinion about the book. If you didn’t like it, explain why, but do so politely and respectfully.
  4. Use Specific Examples:

    • When making statements (e.g., about characters or themes), support them with examples from the book. For instance, if you say a character was brave, mention a specific action that showed their bravery.
  5. Structure and Organization:

    • Ensure your review has a clear structure (introduction, plot summary, analysis, personal opinion). Use paragraphs for each section.
  6. Stay Objective and Respectful:

    • While you’re sharing your personal opinion, avoid attacking the author or the book. It’s fine to critique, but keep it constructive.
  7. Proofread and Edit:

    • Always proofread your review before submitting it. Check for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors to ensure it’s polished and professional.
  8. Use a Formal Tone (but be personal):

    • While the review is about your personal experience with the book, try to write in a formal tone, especially for academic purposes.
  9. Be Creative:

    • Make your review interesting! Use varied vocabulary and creative phrases, but avoid excessive jargon or over-complicated language.
